Benefits to Participating Collections
Benefits to Participating Collections
There are many significant benefits to participating collections.
Collection Profile
Participation in the project raises the profile of the participating collections, stimulates scholarship and alerts the public to neglected parts of the United Kingdom’s heritage.
Your Paintings Website
Inclusion on the Your Paintings website brings substantial benefits to participating collections:
- For almost all small and medium-sized collections the site constitutes the only illustrated online catalogue of their oil paintings.
- Your Paintings reveals the less well-known homes of paintings and highlights the range and diversity of art collections across the country, particularly those outside the leading UK cities.
- The PCF expects Your Paintings to drive significant web traffic to the underlying collections' own websites. Local residents and tourists from home and abroad will be encouraged to visit the actual collections (if open to the public).
- Each participating collection has its own page on the Your Paintings website with a photograph of the collection and address, a link to the collection’s website home page, links to opening hours, and an introduction to the collection’s paintings (provided by the collection). If a collection’s paintings are not easily accessible to the public or are completely inaccessible (e.g. in parts of hospitals or government buildings), this will be made clear.
A Comprehensive Catalogue
The cataloguing process gives many collections their first comprehensive record of their oil paintings.
